Caring for Hardwood
Your new hardwood floor is a big investment. Protect it by following these simple steps:
- Prevent scratches by using mats or rugs at entryways.
- Buy a good broom and sweep regularly. A vacuum cleaner can be used, but use one without a "beater bar" to prevent damage.
- Do not wax floors with a urethane finish. Urethane-finished wood floors require specialized cleaners. Most manufacturers have their own recommended products.
- Do not use ammonia-based cleaners or oil soaps on a wood floor, as these can dull the finish.
- Do not use wet mops to clean wood floors.
- Wood will naturally expand and contract due moisture changes.
- Clean spills as soon as they occur.
